Friday-Day One I'm demonstrating The Golden Swing Thing to the public for the first time. Lot's of chin scratching by the onlookers. "Hmm, that's interesting." "That's kind of unique." "What are you supposed to do with that?" "Oh, it can't be that simple!" To you, Mr. and Mrs. John Q. Public all I can say is, "Oh yes it can be that simple...and it IS that simple if we just let it BE that simple!" I guess I need to understand one thing: This show is more about equipment merchandisers closing out last season's equipment than it is about introducing some new fangled training device. Afterall the next "great leap" in club technology is right around the corner (PGA Merchandise Show). You read me right if you're denoting a bit of sarcasm in that remark ;~) It's easier to sell club "X" for $50.00 now when it was selling for $150.00 during the peak of the golf season. Not to mention it looks so much more like a bargain when you have a previous price to compare it to. There is nothing to compare my product to and there is no big time endorsement sticker dangling from it -- well not yet anyway! Perhaps I'm a little out of my element here. Don't get me wrong, I'm not bitter. I just don't have a lot of "stuff" to clear out; I have only one thing to sell. And when I find the right price point I think I will sell a whole bunch of Golden Swing Things. I believe the trend in golf instruction is moving toward simplicity. This product is poised not only move with that trend but to amplify it. Perhaps the highlight of the day was the interest shown by my neighbor, The Family Golf Learning Center. These are the folks in the big domed facility just South of Cleveland. They were impressed by the simplicity and versatility of the device. I would welcome the opportunity to do some clinics for them. Didn't get the video tape rolling today. I'll try for that tomorrow. Saturday-Day Two Quite honestly more of the same kind of public response. "That's different." "That's an interesting concept." In the back of the mind, however, most folks are attending the show with a pre-planned objective. They're looking for the $29.00 FootJoys and the $39.00 Drivers. Highlight of the day: I met a blind golfer from Cleveland. As the links on the home page indicate, I've been looking for a blind golfer who may be interested in testing The Golden Swing Thing. This particular gentleman, with the aid of his assistant, entered the drawing to win the product on Sunday. Even if his name is not drawn I will be sending him a complimentary Swing Thing in the mail. I sincerely believe I can help the blind golfer improve! Sunday-Day Three This show has turned into more of a public relations campaign than a sales event. That's alright! I distributed about one thousand Golden Barefoot Golf personalized golf tees. People can always use golf tees you know ;~) I have to accept that golfers are slow to change. New products and new ideas have a tough battle in the golf merchandise arena. It's an uphill battle against the brainwashing of the big boys and their shiny happy golf gear. Folks, It's not the club; it's not the club; it's not the club! With that in mind, I'll just keep on keepin' on. Congratulations to Paul Karabatsos of Cleveland, winner of The Golden Swing Thing giveaway! Thanks to all of the perplexed who stopped my to booth to ask, "I give up; what is that?" TS P.S. The promoters of this particular show will surely be disappointed with the numbers at the door. Near record high temperatures in Cleveland steered many golfers far away from the front door of the Cleveland Convention Center and out to nearest available tee. |
