What's the Goof Rating? This rating is a self-assessment of ones own attachment. A rating of 1 means that you are totally attached. You should give yourself this rating if you consistently display the following behaviors:
You should give yourself a 10 if you maintained composure while staying within yourself and playing well. You should give yourself at least a 7 if you maintained your composure while playing poorly. A "goof" (click on the ink well above) is sort of the cousin of the "hack." Both of these have really nothing to do with the score. A person can shoot par but neglect to fix divots and ball marks, drive a golf cart through a sand trap, and belch during another players backswing. Despite the great score he can still be considered a hack. Similarly, a person can shoot par but spend the whole day abusing their psyche, swearing, brooding over missed putts, referring to themselves in the third person, and then beating his chest when he makes a twenty footer for birdie. A person of such temperament is considered a goof. |
