Bob Rotella I haven't yet read "Golf is not a Game of Perfect." Nor have I read "Golf is a Game of Confidence." I do agree wholeheartedly in the truth expressed in the titles of both, but I cannot provide a review at this time. Check the "What's New" area for announcements of reviews. I have listened to the audio tapes titled "Putting Out of Your Mind" and his latest, "The Golf of Your Dreams." Though Rotella comes off as a matter of fact "Mister Rogers" for adult golfers, I just can't give the thumbs up on these two tapes. This is despite the reality that his advice is generally worthwhile. I would say eighty percent of what he says is right on. The tenor of his delivery is uneven and tends to cloud the value of the content. Sometimes he sounds like a stage show hypnotist and at other times like a pleading father. As a reviewer I prefer reading to listening and so the reviews of the audio books may be unduly harsh. Perhaps the forthcoming book reviews will be more favorable. The content itself, pop psychology oriented and tepidly in the the middle of the road, seems to ignore the destructive aspects of desire. Many of his attempts to motivate the listener rely heavily on idealism and all the other things that keep the goof alive. His works (at least those I have been exposed to) display the thinking of a man well steeped in modern psychology which, by definition, remains ignorant of the broader philosophical plane. Nothing that he says gives me a burst of motivation to even address my own ignorance. We want to explore the reality of golf, not build upon the things that are already blocking us! Further, in "Putting Out of Your Mind," there is one piece of putting advice that runs contrary to his own logic and will just about guarantee that if you are putting bad now, you will be putting worse tomorrow! He's not alone. Pelz and Farnsworth make similar errors. I won't go into all that here. But if you sign up for the product test, the short game technique will be mailed to you. In this article I will demonstrate exactly how and why he is wrong. Sorry Dr. Bob. Rating: par |
