The fullest explanation can
be had by reading "Bursting the
Vardon Bubble." With this long version of a standard nine iron and the split grip
as shown, the mass of the leading edge of the swing is accumulated as a counterweight in
the left arm. From this demonstration it is apparent that the left arm is a counterweight
to the gap of shaft between the left and right hands just as the torso is a counterweight
to the fully extended left arm and shaft while occupying the "normal" setup
